Volunteer programs: Long term: Long term volunteers stay with us from 2 to 6 months and cover their food and accommodation Short term: We have short term volunteer experiences lasting from 2 to 7 weeks where volunteers make a donation towards the sea turtle conservation work, which also covers their food and acommodation. What to do next in order to volunteer with us? Please fill in the application form (or ask for it at the same email address) and send it by email info@tortugasfundacionyepez.com Do I need to speak Spanish? As we are in a part of Mexico where few people speak English, it is very useful to have at least a basic knowledge of Spanish, as it will make your stay easier and more fun. What kind of work does a volunteer do with Fundación Yepez? The work is varied and depends a lot on the time of year and season. For example, the sea turtles arrive from April to October during which time the main activities are sea turtle conservation tasks, such as beach patrolling, monitoring, nest transplants, sea turtle rescue, environmental education etc. The patrolling happens both during day and night when nesting females are protected, nests are moved to safe areas, hatchling nests are cleaned and released, there are also environmental education sessions and visitors etc. We also have a variety of other projects with which we need help throughout the year such as reforestation campaigns, beach cleaning campaigns, recycling programs in the communities, upcycling of plastic bottles and other recyclable materials etc. Almost all the work is physical work for which you need no other skills than good health, a desire to work and common sense, but if you do have specials skills that you wish to contribute, please let us know. We are always happy to receive engineers, teachers, biologists, IT specialists, designers, veterinaries, psychologists, doctors etc., we have all kinds of projects in which many skills can be used effectively to help the environment. What do you need to bring? We have some on-site accommodation, as well as a camping area, with all necessary installations for your stay to be comfortable, if you are planning to camp please bring everything you need with you so that your stay will be pleasant, and if you wish to use our resident area, please bring your own sheets and personal things for your stay. It’s important that you bring sun protection such as sunscreen, a cap or a hat, sunglasses and also mosquito repellent. A lot of the work happens on the beach and the sand gets very hot so we recommend closed shoes or trainers/sneakers as well as sandals. There is a village 1.5km away for your basic needs and a town 8km away with a cashpoint, restaurants, shops etc. For any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us by email: info@tortugasfundacionyepez.com |
